a day in the life

7:00 AM:

You start your day with coffee at home, looking out at the mountains. Eustis sits in the heart of Maine’s northwestern mountains, just north of Sugarloaf and surrounded by some of the wildest land in the state. The morning is still, and the air is clean.

8:00 AM:

You work as a guide for one of the regional outdoor adventure companies. Your job changes with the seasons — fishing and hiking trips in summer, hunting guide work in the fall, snowmobile tours in winter. Today you’re leading a group on a fishing excursion at one of the nearby ponds. You prep the gear, meet your clients, and head out.

12:00 PM:

For lunch, you take a break trailside. You packed a sandwich and find a spot along the water to eat. The wilderness up here is vast and quiet — it’s not uncommon to see moose, deer, or eagles during a lunch break.

1:00 PM:

After lunch, you continue guiding for the afternoon. Whether it’s leading a fishing trip, taking a group on a challenging hike, or navigating the backcountry trails, you thrive on sharing this landscape with visitors.

5:00 PM:

After work, you head to the Chain of Ponds Public Reserved Land for a walk. This area offers a network of trails with stunning views of the ponds and surrounding mountains. It’s one of the most scenic spots in western Maine.

6:30 PM:

For dinner, you visit Trail’s End Steakhouse on Eustis Village Road, a local favorite known for its steaks, seafood, pasta, and hearty portions. It’s the kind of place where you run into people you know and the staff remembers your name.

7:30 PM:

After dinner, you drive down to Flagstaff Lake for a sunset walk. The lake is one of the largest in Maine and was created when the Dead River was dammed in the 1950s. The views of the Bigelow Range reflected in the water are unforgettable.

10:00 PM:

Back at home, you settle in for the night. The quiet up here is total — no traffic, no light pollution, just the sound of the wind in the trees.
