a day in the life
7:00 AM:
You start your morning with a cup of coffee at home, looking out at the quiet street. Thomaston is a town that wakes up slowly.
7:45 AM:
You head out to grab breakfast at Thomaston Cafe on Main Street. It’s a small, locally-owned spot with a menu that changes with the seasons.
8:30 AM:
You head to work at Lyman-Morse Boatbuilding on Knox Street. As a marine carpenter, your days are spent shaping wood, fitting interiors, and bringing custom yacht designs to life. Lyman-Morse has been building boats in Thomaston since 1978, continuing a tradition that goes back over 200 years.
12:00 PM:
For lunch, you walk down to the Thomaston Town Landing on the St. George River. It’s a beautiful spot to sit with a packed lunch, watch the lobster boats, and enjoy the views.
1:00 PM:
After lunch, you dive back into the afternoon at the yard. Today you’re working on the interior cabinetry for a 50-foot custom sailing yacht. The wood is locally sourced, the joinery has to be perfect.
5:00 PM:
As the workday comes to an end, you decide to head to the Thomaston Public Landing, a waterfront area where locals often gather. You enjoy the scenic views of the water, watch the boats go by, and even catch a glimpse of the sunset if the timing is right.
6:30 PM:
In the evening, you head to a yoga class at Thomaston Yoga Studio on Main Street. The small, welcoming studio offers gentle and therapeutic classes — a nice way to unwind after a full day.
7:30 PM:
After class, you meet friends for dinner. Station 118 on Main Street serves some of the best barbecue in the midcoast. Or you drive five minutes into Rockland for one of Maine’s best food scenes.
9:00 PM:
You drift off feeling the contentment of a place where you know your neighbors, the work is real, and the beauty is right outside your door.
