When we first launched Live+Work in Maine just a few months ago, we traveled around the state and recorded a number of videos to use as "success stories" (see them here). In no time at all, we started getting questions about when new success stories would be published...so to allow for many more of your stories to be shared, we've created a "Q&A" format. One is for people who want to move to Maine, the other is for people who have already made the choice to make Vacationland work for them. Contribute your own story by clicking here. First up is Nate Wildes – the newest member of the Live+Work in Maine team (and first employee!), hired as Engagement Director. My Maine Story "My name is Nate Wildes, and this is why I Live+Work in Maine" Let's get started: can you tell us your name, where you work and what you do there? By Danielle Waugh, NECN With its beaches, lobster bakes, and ski resorts, Maine draws in millions of vacationers each year. What it’s not drawing in is enough job seekers. “We need to make a concerted effort to get people here,” said Ed McKersie, Founder and President of Portland job recruiting and staffing firm Pro Search. “I feel the state of Maine does a great job marketing itself as a tourist destination, and we don’t have a similar effort to market ourselves as a career destination.” Job recruiters, employers, and politicians speak about Maine’s “brain drain” problem: the trend of young, educated people leaving the state to find employment. There’s also the issue of an aging workforce, and a declining population. McKersie, seeing Maine’s strength in tourism and struggle to find skilled workers, had a thought: what if the state had a job website, that showcased recreation opportunities and the quality of life in each region? About a month ago, he launched the Live + Work…

New worker recruitment website showcases life in Maine By Darren Fishell, BDN Staff PORTLAND, Maine — The 11,000-employee Eastern Maine Healthcare System has a lot of recruiting needs, and that’s likely to continue. “We don’t have enough health care workers in the state to actually fill all of the health care jobs at this time,” Catherine MacLaren, the health care system’s vice president of talent and diversity, said. “And the forecasting is that this will continue to be the case.” MacLaren said managers throughout the system look to surrounding communities before casting a wider net for job openings. Casting that wider net is part of its strategy, and EMHS and many other large employers in Maine have signed onto an effort they hope will make out-of-state recruiting easier. Ed McKersie, founder of recruiting firm ProSearch and of job listing website Jobs in ME, has launched a new website called “Live + Work in Maine.” The site takes a new approach to advertising to job seekers,…
